This primary school for an inner city site takes the form of an asymmetrical three- and - four storey brick city castle behind a new perimeter wall ,an inhabited edge to the CIty Council's relief road which cuts a swathe through the Liberties. The open space between blocks is used as a series of play areas - linked miniature urban spaces for small people, and a memory of the former city plan on the site; a large assembly room runs through the building and connects the external spaces together. The scheme projects an architecture of ordinary public use appropriate for children and the school community ;its brick shape has an integral rationale impervious to the noise and bustle of the street. The school has a strong dedication to environmental teaching and the plan includes areas of trees and space for gardens of flowers and vegetables. |
