In parallel with internal improvements to the 1960s Abbey auditorium, a general re-presentation of the theatre exterior at street level was proposed to bring on to the street the excitement and energy of the Theatre's work through the medium of  production photography and poster design.  A black strip at street level-like contacts from a production shoot-is back-lit with large, luminous images , incorporating signage, stage door and fire exits. Moments of intensity from rehearsals and stage flicker at different heights against a rich black background which speaks directly to passers-by, setting up a miniature street theatre which lends some dynamism to an otherwise mute corner of the city.
